She was also Ambassador to the Republic of Benin (December 1992 – November 1995). Following her assignment as Consul General in Barcelona, Spain, (1987-1991), Ambassador Davis was a member of the 34th Class of the Senior Seminar (1991-1992) which is the highest level of executive training offered by the US Government. While advising the DC Government, she directed the City’s Sister City Program and its International Task Force. She was credited with substantially improving the city’s involvement in the international, economic, cultural, and diplomatic arenas.

Rutie Davis has really establised herself and her buisnesss. During an interview with Elaine Grant she told her that when she was a little girl growing up in New Britain a pair of red Mary Janes changed her whole life. “My mother used to take us to Lord & Taylor in West Hartford—it was there, where I got my first pair of shoes. I put those on and my whole world changed.” Davis is now the owner of her own fabulous line of high-end, high-fashion, high-heeled shoes, which are conceived in NewYork, constructed in Italy, sold in 30 countries and sported by celebrities including Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga and Rihanna. Ruthie actually launched fashion sneakers recently and they’re doing really well. Her luxury shoes have a youthful, sporty, colorful aspect to them.                                                                                                                                                                                                              Her latest creation was a pair of shoes for Blue Ivy Carter. According to Periz Hilton Blue Ivy Carter has just gotten her first pair of Ruthie Davis kicks! The cordwainer is a favorite of Beyonce so it only makes sense that she’d get the best for her baby girl! I am sure there is more to come from Miss Signature Spike Ruthie Davis, We all will be waiting to see what is next.

The Oscars, not the only awards

According to the Oscar official web site, the first Academy Awards ceremony took place out of the public eye during an Academy banquet at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Two hundred seventy people attended the May 16, 1929 dinner in the hotel’s Blossom Room; guest tickets cost $5. As the event grew in size, banquets became impractical and the event moved from banquet room to a theater venue beginning with the 16th Oscar ceremony in 1942, held at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Since 2001, the Oscar ceremony has been held in Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre, just steps from the historic Chinese Theatre. In 1953, the first televised Oscar ceremony enabled millions throughout the United States and Canada to watch the proceedings. Broadcasting in color began in 1966, affording home viewers a chance to fully experience the dazzling allure of the event. Since 1969, the Oscar show has been broadcast internationally, now reaching movie fans in over 20 countries. Since the initial awards banquet on May 16, 1929, they presented 2,809 image from oscar.orgstatuettes.  Each January, additional new golden statuettes are cast, molded, polished and buffed by R.S. Owens & Company, the Chicago-based awards manufacturer retained by the Academy since 1982. Oscar stands 13½ inches tall and weighs in at a robust 8½ pounds. The film reel features five spokes, signifying the five original branches of the Academy: actors, directors, producers, technicians and writers. Officially named the Academy Award of Merit, the statuette is better known by its nickname, Oscar. While the origins of the moniker aren’t clear, a popular story has it that upon seeing the trophy for the first time, Margaret Herrick remarked that it resembled her Uncle Oscar. Today the Academy supports Education & Outreach and other movie-related organizations and institutions, provides opportunities for high school students – and movie fans of all ages – to further their understanding and appreciation of movies and the moviemaking process, and works to encourage interaction between the public and filmmakers of all types. They also provide funding in support of institutions, nonprofit organizations, colleges and university internship programs around the world for filmmaker education programs.
